Pleasure activism review6/21/2023 MacLean and Jennifer Prokop, cohosts of the Fated Mates podcast, have organized weekly phone-banking campaigns since 2020, with more than 450 volunteers making almost 425,000 phone calls to get out the vote in 20’s general elections. Some of those anthologies- DISSENT, Liberate, Hell Hath No Fury, Not Well Behaved Women, Girls Just Wanna Have Fundamental Rights, and Our Choice: Romance for Roe-remain available for purchase. In 2021, romance authors organized multiple anthologies and auctions to raise money for Planned Parenthood, Naral, the Center for Reproductive Rights, and the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice. They raised $95,000 even before their auction went live, and $498,000 total. In 2020, romance writers including Courtney Milan, Alyssa Cole, Bree Bridges, and Kit Rocha organized Romancing the Runoff, a fundraiser for voter registration in the Georgia Senate runoff elections. The “romancelandia” crowd is more socially active than perhaps any other fandom. Further, readers and writers of romance are actively working on making that utopian promise a reality.
